A grant from the Walmart Foundation in 2007 enabled UNCF to place FASTAP under the umbrella of the Institute for Capacity Building, which provided more targeted programming to meet the growing needs of its member institutions in financial and administrative management and strategic planning, particularly as they relate to the reaffirmation of the accreditation process. This funding and new programming came at a pivotal point for UNCF because nearly 50 percent of UNCF-member institutions are facing reaffirmation of accreditation reviews over the next three years.

 

New program components include: 1) pre-accreditation reviews to ensure UNCF-member institutions are well-prepared for the reaffirmation process; 2) access to corporate executives and financial management experts to ensure institutions are aptly addressing changing accreditation principles and federal regulatory requirements; and 3) conducting forums for private HBCU administrators to learn and exchange best practices in institutional effectiveness, fiscal management, compliance and financial aid operations.
