The Institute for Capacity Building embodies the core purpose of UNCF: to support its 39 member institutions in their commitment to provide high-quality educational environments for current and future generations of African American and other students of color. By improving practices in the six critical areas addressed by ICB initiatives, colleges will not only become better and more competitive educational institutions, but will become better able to compete for resources in a crowded philanthropic marketplace. They will become more capable of sustaining themselves.
The launching of ICB illustrates that UNCF has embraced an aggressive advocacy in shaping the direction and the future of higher education for African American and other students of color by supporting the capacity building efforts of those institutions which have assumed responsibility for educating them. With that capability, these institutions will be able to offer increased access to higher education for tens of thousands of African American and other students of color for years to come.
